Chaplaincy at St Dunstan's

Our Chaplains

We are very fortunate to have the support of two Chaplains at St. Dunstan’s School.

Father Peter Andrews
Father Peter Andrews and Mrs Mary Smith

We are blessed with caring and dedicated Chaplains whose work is a key aspect of the life and mission of the school. Our Chaplains work with pupils, staff and parents to strengthen the experience of being a faith community within the school.  They provide a ministry of presence, enable the celebration of key occasions of the school and in the Church’s calendar and are a valued source of support and encouragement at times of difficulties, bereavement or illness.

The Catholic Life and Mission Team work closely with our Chaplains to plan a chaplaincy programme that provides creative, high quality opportunities for the spiritual development of pupils, staff and families.

  • Lead Prayer groups for pupils, staff and families e.g. Rosary during May and October
  • Meet with members of the school family during times of difficulties
  • Lead training to support staff to develop high quality, creative prayer with their classes
  • Join classes for times of prayer and attend liturgies in school and at the church
  • Support in the formation of the Faith Ambassadors

Our Chaplains are a part of the St Dunstan’s School family, they are a visible presence in school for children and staff during the day.

Pupils value the Chaplaincy provision. They know that being a part of a Catholic school community is very special.  Once children are in Years 5 and 6, they willingly take on leadership roles to support Chaplaincy. They write a letter to apply for the position of Faith Ambassador, a vital role in school as the children work together to enhance the Catholic Life of the school.
